Our Story
Born in the Rockies, crafted for the wild.
Our Canadian Heritage
Founded in 1985 in a small workshop nestled in Canmore, Alberta, Boreal Outfitters was born out of necessity. The Canadian Rockies are notoriously unforgiving, with weather patterns that can shift from brilliant sunshine to a blinding blizzard in a matter of hours.
Our founder, a seasoned mountain guide, was tired of gear that failed when it mattered most. He began modifying and repairing his own equipment, eventually sewing the very first Boreal canvas tent. Today, that spirit of relentless innovation and durability remains the cornerstone of everything we do.
We believe that high-quality gear is not a luxury; it is a vital lifeline. Every stitch, every seam, and every material choice is meticulously vetted against the rugged backdrop of our backyard.
The Boreal Philosophy
We don't believe in fast fashion or disposable gear. The outdoors demands respect, and our equipment is designed to minimize environmental impact through sheer longevity. When you invest in a Boreal jacket or backpack, you are investing in a piece of gear meant to be passed down to the next generation.
We source sustainable materials, including ethically harvested down, recycled nylon, and cruelty-free merino wool, ensuring that we protect the very wilderness we explore.
Meet the Boreal Guides
Our product development is led by those who live out there. Our ambassadors and field testers push our prototypes through snow, sleet, and mud.
